Edmiston-Ruedenberg Diabatic States, Nonadiabatic Dynamics and Magnetic Fields

University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA 19104

Excited state potential energy surfaces are complicated and full of crossings. In this talk, I will first review some basic questions about the nature of diabatic states, nonadiabatic dynamics and photophysics, while highlighting how my interactions with Klaus Ruedenberg have intersected my trajectory in this large field. Thereafter, I will introduce surface hopping and discuss some new questions we are asking in our laboratory, specifically: how is the nature of conical intersections and their dynamics altered by the presence of magnetic fields.
